Brynn Breakdancing

Brynn came home from school (he's in year round) a few weeks ago and said he wanted to break dance in his school's annual variety show. He made the tryouts much to our dismay!:) He is self taught and didn't practice once. We were just happy that he wasn't booed off the stage. He was pretty excited about the audience clapping along with the music. Afterwards, in response to the clapping he declared, "I must be a big hit!" We just laughed and rolled our eyes. If anyone is interested, Brynn said he would give lessons. But just a forewarning, he said he will be the drill sargeant type.

In Memory of...

Chips the hamster has passed away. He was a good little hamster, most of the time, except for a few escapes. Unfortunately, he died while we left him at our friends, while we went on vacation to Utah and Idaho. We had no idea how old he was and of course they don't live that long. We felt bad for our friends, of them going out of their way, helping us and then this having to happen to them on their watch. He died the day after we left, but we didn't tell the kids until the end of the trip, when we were a couple hours from home. Of course there were some tears. Brynn and Kate took it the hardest. The news was broke to them with the preface, " We have some bad news...." For a few days after, Lex was heard walking around the house saying, " We have some bad news..." He was not being serious at all. I guess he got over it quick.

Pictures

We took the kids to get pictures the other day. It didn't start out well. Meg wasn't cooperating. We had the other kids go first and then Meg warmed up. I think they turned out pretty good. Brynn has 2 large pictures of him because his parents couldn't agree on which one they liked better. Dad liked the cool pose and Mom liked the smiling pose. If you would like to see the small pictures better just click on them to enlarge.

Maybe a new favorite pastime?

We've gone bowling a couple times lately at the casino!
Meg's favorite part was watching the ball come back!

The first time we went, we mostly had the 72 lane bowling alley to ourselves. They provided this cool ramp for the kids to roll the ball down.

And you wonder where they learn it!

So you don't think Moriya is so vain to post something like this about her, this is Bryan doing the posting! I like laying low, but since we're talking about this, it's the opposite of what some of you think. Moriya has very, very little to do with this blog. Matter of fact, I do all of the posting! Moriya's very little contribution of course is to point out anything that I do wrong...! But, I wouldn't trade her for the world!

Two of a kind!

Brynn is trying to be like his Grandpa Weeks (of course before Grandpa had to shave his beard to serve his mission in India)!

Dad's new basketball watching buddy!

Dad was watching the Utah vs. BYU game Saturday afternoon on one of the rare Saturdays Dad has off and a tired, but cute little 2 year old (Dadda's Girl) climbed up on the couch wanting to snuggle up. Dad exclaimed to the rest of the family, "Look, I have a new basketball watching buddy!" The only consistent basketball watching buddies Dad has every had is while growing up in Manti; he would go over to Grandpa and Grandma Olsen's house for almost every Jazz game because they had Cable (to get the Jazz game), Cookies (a regular staple) and were great Company (another main staple).

Dad was mostly ignored by the rest of the family who were close by doing something and not having their priorites straight realizing how important or great this game was or any basketball game for that matter. But, cute little Meg, at hearing this monumental declaration of her being crowned Dad's new basketball watching buddy, quickly got down from the couch and went upstairs. Dad thought she was going to grab her blanky, but he was terribly mistaken. She went and got a basketball, came back downstairs and resumed the position she was in, now with the basketball and shortly there after fell asleep (Dad never falls asleep watching a game, no never).

Dad finally got the attention of the other adult in the family to come and look. This other unappreciative basketball adult thought it was worth a picture. Too bad the other adult and the rest of the family missed a great game!

Brynn's and Lex's Room

Before going on her mission to India, Brynn's and Lex's Grandma Weeks painted their room. As you can see, Brynn is pointing to where his Grandparents are serving their mission(New Delhi, India). Brynn is so proud of his room, now. Thanks Grandma Weeks!

When asked by her mom what kind of cake she wanted for her birthday, Meg pointed to her older sister and said, "I want that Kate."

Brynn's appendix ruptured!

Brynn has had stomach aches come and go over the last year. His first memorable episode was a Monday morning after a long fun weekend. His parents thought he was faking it so he didn't have to go to school. During these episodes his walk became labeled "the little old man walk".

Back in October he was taken to the doctor on a Friday and he was set to get X-rays, but he would have to wait until after the weekend, thinking it was not a big deal. By Monday he felt better so his parents thought why pay for an X-ray. He had a soccer game shortly after and he felt better but still not 100%. His parents thought at least he's running, even if he is running around like a little old grandpa.

Over the first weekend of January an episode happened again. So on Monday his mom took him to the doctor's. Nothing was detected, but it was suggested to take him over to the ER and have him checked because of pain on his right side. Sure enough, after a cat scan they determined his appendix had ruptured. He had surgery Monday evening and everything went well. The doctor said it was the closest she came to getting it out the old fashioned way in 8 years, but was able to get it with small incisions. I guess the old fashion way is slice him open to get it.

Brynn was in the hospital until Friday (Jan. 9). He went without food and drink (including water) for 5 days (His parents have never done that and don't know if they could) to flush the poisons from his body. He was just hooked up to the IV and had a tube up his nose and down his throat and also a tube inserted straight into his stomach on the front right side. The poisons were cleaned out through the tubes. We think the most uncomfortable part for him was the tube up the nose. He pulled it out in his sleep one night and the nurses had to put it back in. You can't blame him for not liking that.

Lucky for Brynn, the pediatrics section of the hospital had a lot of video games (4 different game consoles (X-Box, X-Box 360, Playstation 2, and Nintendo 64) to choose from, Brynn played them all). Not having any of this at home he made sure to get his fill. Seeing the picture below he commented, "I miss my video games!"

Below is a picture of Brynn finally being able to partake of "something" after 5 days!

He left the hospital Friday evening and was back to school Monday morning. He has 3 small incisions on his stomach. The scars will be there to remind him the rest of his life. We're sure he will think of the video games each time he looks at the scars!
